We give our children the best foundation to reading when we introduce books and the joy of stories from the start. They recognize colours and shapes from repeatedly reading the same books, and experience the joy of recognizing various animals and objects. These informal stories from infant hood to school introduce the love of books, the brain process of following a pattern (words on the page) from left to right, all preparation for reading! As well as creating repeated opportunity for closeness between parent and child, and special one-on-one time.
These kind of intimate story times, nurture the parent child relationship, creating a feeling of acceptance and being valued, thus building the child’s self-esteem. This bears much fruit for the child in the teenage years.
